When we finally got to a point last night to blog an update, I could hardly keep my eyes open. So, after the best night’s sleep we’ve had since WED (THANK YOU, DURANS & NIHARTS!!!) we’re finally able to catch everyone up.
As the quick mid day post shared yesterday, it’s all became official at 3:35pm! Kind of. We’re the custodians of the agencies guardianship. He comes home with us, but we still have to pass our second home inspection after his 60 day immunizations… I’m not worried at all about that. Angie keeps a pretty tidy house, so we’ll be good! Basically, and for all practical purposes, he’s ours. And we couldn’t be more thrilled.
Friday, they took him off the respirator. He’s now breathing fully on his own! That’s big stuff for the little guy. The Rhino-looking tube sticking out of his nose is just a pressure appling O2 tube… similar to the one that would go on the lip under the nose of an adult. The pressure is applied to his lungs to help him breathe deeper and slow the number of breaths per minute that he’s taking. An average baby would be taking around 4o/BPM, but he’s taking between 60-70 which is down from the 80-90 the first night in the NICU. Also, the machine provides him with 22% oxygen. Standard air breathed is at 21%. So, he’s on just enough to keep his O2 level high enough. Nurse Stephanie said he may only be on that for another day or two.
When we left last night (about 10pm), they were thinking he may get a bath sometime around midnight. He had eatten his second feeding of 5cc’s (about a tablespoon) of milk and pooped after both… MY BOY!!!
We both held him yesterday and it had to be the best feeling in the world. We had our first family prayer then right before the above picture was taken. (For those of you curious… it was a Conrad prayer.) We told him how many people are checking on him (my & his blogs are skyrocketing with hits from people checking in to nearly 1000 hits in the last 2 days), we told him that people are praying for him all over the country… if not the world, and we’ve told him we love more than we can count. Keep checking, ISAAC365 for pics and here for details more will come as often as possible.
There’s a peace in the room every time we’re with him.
Friday was a good day.
