My mom tells stories of me being under Bilirubin lamps for a week with Jaundice when I was born (I was also technically a preemie). I don’t think it looked like this:
Nurse Kittie (no lie), explained to us that the new Bilirubin lamps are all LED. They are supposedly a little stronger and more effective. Effective we like. Because they’re stronger, he gets to wear these rockin’ foam shades. They put those slip on ones from the eye doctor to shame!
“Don’t worry, homey… We’ll get you some better ones when you’re out.”
His breathing is still a little quick … probably because his parents don’t want to stop touching him and he’s annoyed (my mind fast-forwards to teenage years). His O2 levels are still needing a little help, but they’ve moved him to a less “strenuous” tank pushing less pressure into his little lungs and forcing him to start to regulate on his own. He’s obviously a fighter.
It’s just after 4pm. We’re sitting at the closest Starbucks to the hospital trying to figure out what to do for the next few hours, days, weeks…
Isaac has another check up and feeding at 5pm, so we’ll head back just after that to get some more details.
Thanks for the prayers. It’s pretty awesome … we can actually feel them.
