DAY 13// THE END MAY BE IN SIGHT

day13_head

At this moment, Angie and I are both curled up on a hospital twin bed watching Isaac breathe.  We’re not sure how else you check to see if a baby is doing OK without monitors and bells.

This AM we got a call from the hospital asking if we’d like to “room in” tonight.  That’s hospital speak for: “you’ve been driving 40 mins one way to get to and from here and we’ve had a full floor with deliveries the last few weeks and we have an open room and we want to make sure that you can be parents but we don’t want to be too far from you in case there’s an issue but we trust you… no really we do.”  We of course, said we would take the opportunity since we have NO IDEA WHAT WE’RE DOING!  Seriously, how do all of you parents that don’t have extended stays in the NICU just figure it out.  It’s not like there are books on the subject 😉

Anyway, today was a good day.  The nurses moved him to 22 calorie formula.  They added rice cereal to it yesterday to help with the refulx issues that he’d been experiencing.  It seems to have helped.  He’s still experiencing some mild Bradycardia (short heart rate drops) while eatting but these are apparently very common in preemies.  It’s something that typically works itself out by the time the baby reaches full term … so another 2-4 weeks for Isaac.  He failed his second car seat test last night but was cleared for a 1.5 hour drive.  So, when we come home, we’ll have to stop after about an hour get out stretch and make sure everything’s OK.  It’s looking like we’re coming home this week sometime.  It all depends on the next night or two as we “room in.”

So, right now, we’re watching him breathe.
We’re not going to get any sleep tonight!

Keep praying!  We’re almost home!
