LIKE FATHER. like son. //

There’s a beautiful spiritual connection between fathers and son.
Every son, whose dad is around, wants to be like his dad some how.

I did.
My dad was a cop.
He stood for what was right.
He was honest.
He had guns.
He hunted.
He was handy.
He was a manly man.
I still want to be like that.

I watch my friend’s sons want to be like them.
If they’re musicians, they want to play.
If they’re doctors, they play doctors.
If they’re pastors, they pretend to preach.
If they’re artistic, they like to color… and are picky about what color shoes they wear.

It’s how we’re made… to want to be like our dads.

I hope Isaac is this way.
It scares the crap out of me, though.
To think that the decisions I make shape something… someone… that’s deep stuff.

Somewhere this translates to our spiritual lives, too.
“Be like the Father,” the Bible says.
That scares the crap out of me, too.

I am FAR from living like Jesus.
So, what if I’m a pastor.
I’m screwed up and broken, just like everyone else.

That means that Isaac has a broken example.
That means that Isaac will have to figure somethings out for himself.
That means that Isaac’s dad will not always be right.
That means that Isaac will get hurt somewhere along the line.
That scares the crap out of me more.

But, LIKE FATHER, like son… he will be broken, too.

And, thus… grace is for him, too!
It’s for all of us.
Even me.
