CAN’T WE JUST GET OVER OURSELVES?//

I just lost about an hour and a half of my life that I will never get back. (Enter Doc Brown from a frozen/smoking/tred burning Delorian)…
I got sucked into reading a series of blog posts and the ensuing comments from someone who thinks he has something to say about Christianity.

Let’s be honest. That’s why we all blog.
We all think we have something to say about something.
We all think we have special insight, opinion, or thought process that everyone else needs to know.
We’re all egotistical.
We all want to be known.
We all look at our stats of readers and comments and get excited when the numbers rise with each new post.

Some blogs I read make me think.
Some make me thankful.
Some make me pray.
Some make me laugh (like this new one I found the other day).
Some just flat out piss me off.

And, we’re back to my last hour and half.
I happened across a guy’s blog that had posted a handful of rants about Rob Bell.

+ SIDEBAR
Something you need to know about me is that I have a loyalty problem. Once I decide I like something (or someone) I latch onto it like an alligator clamping down on a small dog. I’ll fight to the death for it because I believe in it/them. I’ve been told it’s an admirable quality, but I’ve seen it come back and bite me in arse a few too many times to completely believe that.

It’s no secret that I’m a Rob Bell fan. His writings have made me think in ways that I’d not previously. The way he artistically asks questions makes my brain work in overdrive until I find an answer for myself. This is one of the points that drives people nuts about him. He doesn’t answer his own questions. But, that’s the point! We need to find answers for ourselves as opposed to being fed them in typical felt-board Sunday School fashion. It’s a growth practice.

I digress… (See? This is my issue…)

Anyway, as I started digging deeper into said blog, I didn’t really find anything positive in it. I would classify it as “just another angry Christian’s” blog. A modern day Pharisee’s blog, if you will. Picture that annoying sidewalk preacher out on the corner with a bullhorn after a concert. You know the one. The “turn or burn” type. Everything else is wrong. Everything else needs to be questioned. And worst of all, it was all under the guise of “I’m just trying to make you a better Christian.”

I’m all for growth and accountability.
But, honestly… can’t we all just STOP THE BITCHING?!?

+

I have this picture of Heaven in my head that helps me with this kind of issue.
We’re all gathered up together on some giant cloud.
The second coming has come.
EVERYONE that’s going to be there is there, and we’re segregated into our denominational/faith/church groups.
Then it happens.
GOD walks up and says, “All of you had some of it right… and all of you had some of it wrong. Now you’re in Heaven. Get over yourselves.”

I know, I know… it may be a little blasphemous to put GOD into a petty situation like that. But, don’t you think HE wants us to find the best in people? To work alongside others despite our differences? To take on a life like Christ… to everyone? Even other Christians?

Truth is we don’t. You could argue that I’m not doing any of that by posting this.
But, I don’t do well with people tearing down other people.
When Christ-followers tear down other Christ-followers, it tears down the Kingdom.
It makes me realize just how many battles we’re fighting…

So, here’s my “special insight, opinion, or thought process” for the day:

May you and I all show Christ today.
May we all know that Christ came, died, rose, and will return for all of us.
And may we all just get over ourselves.
