Today has been a good day… if you’ll notice the picture, the nasal cannula is gone! This morning at about 9:45 they took him off all breathing support and he’s doing well! At 11:30, Angie fed him his whole bottle (all 45cc’s). This was the second in a row today! They’re going to leave the feeding tube in for the next day or so, until he takes all 8 daily feedings from the bottle. I keep telling him, that we want him to keep getting better, but if he only batts, .300, he’ll make enough money to support Mom & Dad. High expectations for this one!
The first thing we heard this morning was Dr. Dobson, one of the two NICU doctors, (they do a 7 days on 7 days off rotation) saying as we walked in the door, “There’s a day coming soon when I’m going to look at you and say, ‘I’ve got good news and bad news.'”
Angie kind of jumped. “What’s the bad news gonig to be?” she asked with a little hesitation.
“The good news will be that he’s off all his tubes, he’s gaining weight, and everything’s good. The bad news will be, you have to take him home!”
Angie then proceeded to tell him how she’s been drafting a plan to take nurses home with us. 3 are signed on and she’ll have it filled in the next few days.
We also found out that the nurses are all fighting over who gets to care for him. And, who wouldn’t? I mean, come on! He’s a Towle!
So, it’s been a GREAT DAY! BIG, HUGE STRIDES FORWARD!
We’re going to church tonight with Papa-Steve & Ma-Cindy. It’ll be good worship. It feels like FOREVER since we’ve been to church. We’re really looking forward to it.
Keep praying. I’ll have more of an update once we see him later on this evening.
